A story of many firsts
My process of making this website has been quite an adventure. It was definitely a learning curve, but also an opportunity to gain a lot of first experiences…
DIY? No, thanks ✋
Section titled “DIY? No, thanks ✋”I cannot quite recall the last time I made a website without drowning in a spaghetti ocean of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Fighting to stay afloat, I’d wonder how the hell I got here. “But it was such a simple idea!”, I’d mutter to myself. “Next time, I’ll do it right!” Well, Óli of the past, I think this may be one of those rare cases when that promise is kept. This website is powered exclusively by off-the-shelf frameworks and services, and what an excellent decision that turned out to be! Astro and Starlight have enabled me to turn a collection of Markdown files into a website I’d need a year to make 😆
.com domains are surprisingly affordable
Section titled “.com domains are surprisingly affordable”It’s surprising, I know! Maybe you were already aware of this, and you think it’s silly of me to even mention this. Nevertheless, this domain1 is the first one I’ve ever bought, and I’m excited about it. It was a much cheaper and simpler process than I had initially expected. I looked at a few domain providers, and the ones I ended up choosing between were Cloudflare and Porkbun. Both seemed to provide excellent value for a great price, so it was a tough call. On a whim, though, I decided to go with Porkbun. Now, I don’t have anything smart to say about why I made that choice; it was literally down to a coin toss. My experience has been good so far, and I don’t doubt I would’ve had a nice experience with Cloudflare as well.
Spreading the good 🇮🇸Icelandic🇮🇸 word
Section titled “Spreading the good 🇮🇸Icelandic🇮🇸 word”Okay, so you bought a domain… big deal 😒
— You
Ouch. Well, if that wasn’t enough to impress you, then I’m sure you’ll change your tone once you get a load of this PR I made:

It’s my first time contributing to an open-source project! 🥳
And it’s in a way that is very close to my heart: Adding Icelandic translation to Starlight’s UI 🥹 I’m honestly surprised it hadn’t been done before, but I’m delighted to have this chance to contribute to the open-source community. Aiding the accessibility of Starlight to all Icelanders is also a huge plus 💪
Hopefully I get plenty more opportunities to contribute more in the future!
